Frequently asked questions

How is this comparison different from licpolicyadvisor's?
We compare across all 42 active LIC plans (not just the four popular ones), let you pick up to three simultaneously, and show category-aware rows — so ULIP comparisons show fund counts and projected maturity values while endowment comparisons show bonus rates and FAB.
Can I compare a term plan with an endowment plan?
Yes — the tool allows it and will show a warning banner. However, it's rarely a fair comparison: term plans provide pure protection (no maturity value) while endowment plans bundle savings and insurance. The right question is usually 'term + invest the difference vs endowment', not a plan-by-plan table.
Are the projected maturity values guaranteed?
For par endowment and money-back plans, the bonus rates used are LIC's declared March 2025 rates — they are not contractually guaranteed and can change. For ULIPs, the 4% / 8% / 12% scenarios are IRDAI-mandated illustrations, not forecasts. Term plans pay only on death — there is no maturity value (unless return-of-premium variant).
Which LIC plan has the highest XIRR?
It depends on the term, entry age, and market conditions. Term plans have no survival XIRR (pure protection). Among savings plans, ULIP XIRR is scenario-dependent and market-linked. Par endowment plans typically yield 5–6.5% XIRR over 20–25 years. Whole-life plans provide guaranteed income streams that cannot be compared on XIRR alone. Use the per-plan calculators for a full projection.
How often are bonus rates updated?
LIC declares bonus rates once a year, typically in September, based on its March 31 actuarial valuation. This page is refreshed after each declaration. The current rates reflect LIC's Results of Valuation as at 31 March 2025 (declared September 2025).
